Room in the Inn

We are pleased to be hosting Room in the Inn again this year. In the past, we have hosted two nights a month, but due to increased demand, we will host 12 men every Tuesday night from the beginning of November until the end of March. Please review the slots below to see where you can help. Dates for January - March will be added soon!

Volunteer Roles

Laundry

Two volunteers are needed each week to wash the sheets and towels and return them prior to the next Tuesday afternoon. Laundry can be picked up and returned to the Laundry Room next to the Room in the Inn closet.

Dinner

Dinner items should be delivered upstairs to Akers Hall by 5:30pm, where there is a fridge and freezer available.  Food should be enough for 12 guests plus 2 innkeepers. Carts are available in the downstairs kitchen if needed.

Hospitality

Volunteers are needed at 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon to help set up beds in classrooms and serve dinner to our guests in Akers Hall.  They will make the beds with clean sheets from the Room in the Inn closet and put one toiletry bag, towel and washcloth on each bed.  Hosts make sure there is water available and set the tables in Akers Hall for dinner.

Breakfast

Provide breakfast for 12 guests and 2 innkeepers (ex. frozen biscuits, fruit, OJ, milk, muffins). Coffee is provided by the church, and there is a microwave available in Akers Hall.

Sack Lunches

Provide 12 sack lunches for the guests to take with them.  Suggested items: sandwich, fruit/chips, cookie, water. Please include napkins and utensils if needed. Deliver the lunches to Akers Hall by Tuesday at 5:30pm.

Innkeepers

Two male volunteers are needed each night to sleep at the church as an overnight host with our guests. We request that innkeepers arrive at 5:00pm to ensure beds are made and all food has arrived.

Tuesday Night Driver

Tuesday drivers need to come by the church office and pick up the keys to the church bus (usually in Laura Zabaski's mailbox in the workroom).  Drive the bus to the Room in the Inn location downtown to pick up our guests by 5:30pm. Deliver the guests to church and leave the keys and the list of men in the Akers Hall kitchen for the morning driver.

All drivers must be approved by the church. If you are interested in driving but have not done so before, please contact Laura Zabaski, Parish Administrative Officer, for details (615-385-2150 x 242).

Wednesday Morning Driver

Arrive at the church by 5:45am to depart with the guests in the church bus at 6:00am for the Room in the Inn location downtown.

All drivers must be approved by the church. If you are interested in driving but have not done so before, please contact Laura Zabaski, Parish Administrative Officer, for details (615-385-2150 x 242).
