The Rev. Sarah Puryear
Priest Associate for Children's Ministries
The Rev. Sarah Puryear grew up in the state of Maine. After having formative experiences in charismatic and evangelical churches, she started on the path to Canterbury when she encountered the Anglican liturgies of Holy Week for the first time as a college student. She studied English and ancient languages at Wheaton College, participated in the year-old Fellows Program in Falls Church, Virginia, and then received her Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School. After being ordained in the Diocese of Southwest Florida, she moved to Nashville in 2010 to serve at St. George's, where she met her husband Dan. In 2017 she took time off to stay at home full-time with her two children. She rejoined the clergy team at St. George's in 2022. In her new role Sarah will (1) help to ensure high-quality Anglican formation for our children, (2) grow our community of young parents within the parish, (3) assist with a weekly Bible study for young moms, and (4) encourage participation of non-attending St. George’s Kindergarten families. Sarah loves reading fiction, traveling, and spending time with her family.
