Join docent Agatha Nolen for an online tour of one of the Frist Art Museum's current exhibitions, Medieval Bologna: Art for a University City.

Home to the oldest university in Europe, the northern Italy town of Bologna became a preeminent center of manuscript production which included scribes, illuminators, and booksellers that operated outside the traditional production in monasteries. The University specialized in both Roman and canon law resulting in oversized textbooks. The influence of both the Franciscan and Dominican monastic orders attracted wealthy patrons who commissioned Bibles and choir books with brilliant illuminations. All objects are from 1200-1400 AD. This is the first museum exhibition in the United States to focus on medieval art from Bologna.

Medieval Bologna: Art for a University City is on display at the Frist Art Museum through January 30.
