New Clergy Call - David Barr
I am very excited to announce that the Rev. David M. Barr has accepted my invitation to join our staff as Associate Rector. David is currently completing a Ph.D. in theology from Wycliffe College, the University of Toronto, while also assisting in ministry at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston, South Carolina. David is married to Caroline, and they will be moving to Nashville early this fall with David beginning his new ministry with us on October 1.
David and Caroline are both native South Carolinians. David comes from a long line of Episcopal clergy as both his father and grandfather are priests of the church. Susalee and I have loved getting to know his father, John, and mother, Laura, over the years through conferences we have attended at Kanuga with them and through some family connections in South Carolina. This is a great young couple joining our ministry team, and I am confident that the Barrs will bless our parish into the years ahead as we will bless them.
David holds a B.A. from Covenant College on Lookout Mountain and received a Masters in Theology, Ethics and Culture from the University of Virginia prior to pursuing his Ph.D. at Toronto. David will be involved in a host of ministries and is especially excited about opportunities for preaching, teaching, and young adult discipleship.
This is a season of some staff transition, and we are extremely blessed to attract outstanding clergy candidates to St. George’s. I am thankful that David and Caroline discerned this call to come to St. George’s and participate with us in what God is doing in and through our parish life. Please join me in extending a very warm welcome to the Barrs as they arrive early this fall.
