Love Offering for the Spruills

November 18, 2020

Dear Friends,

By now you have heard the news that our beloved rector, the Rev. Dr. R. Leigh Spruill, has been called to a new chapter in his ministry as rector at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. His last day with us will be Sunday, December 13, 2020. This news is bittersweet for us here at St. George’s as Leigh has been a steadfast leader, a pioneering visionary, and a constant presence in all of our lives for nearly 16 years now.  He has been a trusted mentor, a steady and earnest confidante, and a never-wavering dear friend to us all. To say he will be missed is a profound understatement.

Yet we are simultaneously so very happy for Leigh, Susalee, and their family as they embark on what will undoubtedly be a wonderful next chapter in their life in Christ.  We have such tremendous gratitude for everything that Leigh has accomplished here at St. George’s, and we are confident that St. John the Divine will likewise flourish beyond measure under his tutelage and leadership. Leigh will bring unparalleled energy and extraordinary vision to their parish, and we are excited to follow the many great things in store for him and the St. John the Divine family. We wish Leigh, Susalee, and their family our very best as they embark on their next journey!

We hope that in the coming weeks you will share with Leigh and Susalee your gratitude and thanksgiving for their ministry over the last many years here at St. George’s. We also ask that you consider a financial love offering as a tangible expression of our gratitude and our love for these very special people. Such offerings are traditional in this and many other parishes and are a wonderful way to say “thank you” to a rector and his family who have simply meant the world to us. Please make your offering in care of St. George’s and noted as “Spruill Gift.” Our thanks in advance for your consideration and timely offering.

Once again, we are grateful beyond words for Leigh’s years with us here at St. George’s, and we look forward to all the wonderful things awaiting Leigh at St. John the Divine in Houston. Thanks be to God for Leigh and his beautiful family. We will miss them!
