Announcement: New Director of Lay Ministry Engagement
I am very excited to announce that Martha Rodes has accepted my call to join the church staff as Director of Lay Ministry Engagement. It is hard to imagine a parishioner possessing a greater combination of gracious faithfulness, church leadership experience, natural talents, and familiarity with our community than Martha. Having known and served with Martha on a variety of church ministries and initiatives over the years, including during her second term as Senior Warden in 2017, I give thanks to God for her openness to this senior level staff position. Martha is married to Dyer and with their two daughters, Huntley and Sarah Catherine, are long-time, beloved parishioners.
As you recall, the position of Director of Lay Ministry Engagement was developed several years ago following vestry discernment that St. George's could improve our capacity connecting people to one another and to our myriad ministries. In a very large, complex congregation such as ours, one of the biggest challenges we face is also one of our biggest opportunities: how to more efficiently and impactfully usher members into realms of ministry that will help them serve and grow in Christ. I have every confidence that Martha will help move us forward into this vision.
I am thankful for the time and wisdom of a "search committee" for this ministry composed of the Rev. Colin Ambrose, Alice Essary, Graham Meadors, and Brad Thomason. Also, I wish to thank again Joe King, formerly in this role, for his leadership in helping launch from scratch this new position three years ago. He laid a very solid foundation for next steps in the development of the ministry.
Martha will begin her new ministry on staff January 1, 2020. Her call is an important development for St. George's, and I am thankful to God sharing the news with you.
Yours in Christ,
