Acolytes Needed
One of the most important and practical ways our youth can engage with the church is by serving as an acolyte, which is open to all 7th graders and older. Acolyting is an essential ministry of St.George’s and one that fills our worship with beauty, solemnity, and pageantry. Acolytes support both clergy and volunteers, ensuring that the vital behind-the-scenes tasks and logistics of worship flow smoothly. Acolyting is a great way to give back to the church community while gaining appreciation, leadership, and respect for worship. Studies show that youth who have participated in services in this way are much more likely to continue to be church-goers through adulthood.
As an added bonus, volunteer hours may count toward community service requirements for your school or scout troop, and acolyting can help build a service record for college and other applications. Most acolytes serve once a month at either the 8:45 or 11:00am Nave service. All acolytes receive training prior to serving.
