St. George's Choir

Interested in the Choir?

The St. George’s Choir is a warm, fun-loving group who are committed to enriching our liturgies with outstanding music;  they also participate in the cultural life of Nashville with great dedication and joy.  If you are interested in joining the Choir, telephone or email Gerry Senechal at (615) 385-2150 x 252 with any questions  you may have.

The St. George’s Choir is comprised of adults who sing the finest choral music in the Anglican Tradition.  Drawing from many periods in history and honoring current-day composers, we focus on music’s unique place in liturgy: a well-placed and well-sung anthem or hymn can — and, in fact, often does — provide a glimpse of the Almighty.

Concerts & Services

The Choir sings the 8:45 and 11:15 services during the academic year (volunteers sing one service, staff singers sing both).  We frequently sing Choral Evensong on the first Sunday of the month, and the Gentlemen of the Choir sing Compline on the third Wednesday of each month.  In addition to the major liturgical events of the church year (Christmas Eve, Holy Week) and providing music for extra services hosted by the parish, we give choral concerts alone and in collaboration with other ensembles in Nashville, including our 2015 performances of Holst's The Hymn of Jesus with Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Concert Chorale of Nashville. See the current schedule here.

The Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings, 7-9 p.m. during the academic year, and before each service on Sundays. In the summer the Choir rehearses an hour before the service.

The Choir’s tours have included Winchester Cathedral, England; the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C.; the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association; and a European Tour which included the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris.

The St. George’s Choir has issued recordings on the Pro Organo label until former director Dr. Wilma Jensen.  Read more here.
