About Leigh
Leigh serves as rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville, TN. His particular delights in ministry are preaching, teaching, and trying to encourage others to have as high expectations for their life in Christ as God does!
Prior to his call to St. George’s in early 2005, Leigh served as rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida, and as an assisting priest on the staffs of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham, Alabama and St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia.
A native of Tappahannock, Virginia, Leigh received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college and following several years in the commercial real estate industry in Richmond, he attended the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He was ordained in 1996 and loves his ministry despite challenging times.
Leigh is married to Susalee, and the Spruills have three children, Eleanor (19), Peter (16) and William (9). Leigh enjoys biking, golf and gardening, thinks Nashville is a great place to live, and can be obnoxious about all things Carolina Blue. He also believes it is vital that today’s mature Christian thinks more deeply about the impact of culture on belief and vice versa.
