Health Ministry News
St. George’s is exploring the concept of Health Ministry in order to bring wholeness and healing to broken people; not only for our congregation but also for our community.
According to National Episcopal Health Ministries, Health Ministry focuses on whole-person health through increasing self knowledge, personal responsibility, and interdependence among God’s people. Health Ministry is a witness to the healing activity of God, emphasizing the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
Our Health Ministry will use the talents of parish nurses, other health professionals, and lay people interested in health and healing. If you sense a calling to serve this exciting Ministry, please contact Shannon Garrett or The Rev. Marcia King.
Health & Wellness
St. George's regularly offers great ways to keep you physically healthy. Similar to prayers for healing after illness or injury, we believe it is important to keep our bodies fit with regular movement and exercise. We need to be well in order to answer God's call in our lives!

Holy Yoga should return to St. George's in the fall. Please call us for the schedule at 385-2150.
Morning Healing Services
Join us in the Chapel every Wednesday at 10:00am for a Healing Service with Holy Eucharist.
Evening Healing Services

Join us on the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm in Johnson Hall.
We invite you to join us on the last Wednesday of the month, as we come into God’s presence and seek healing in mind, body and spirit. The service will include a homily on the ministry of healing, beautiful and peaceful music, and prayers for healing with the laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil for those who desire it. This non-Eucharistic service will last about an hour. This service will be held regularly on the last Wednesday of the month.
Frequently Asked Questions about our Healing Services
1. How will the prayer time work?
The prayer teams of one priest and one lay minister will stand around the room, and if you’d like prayer, simply walk up to them. They will ask you quietly if you’d like to share anything about your prayer request. You can share whatever you are comfortable telling them. If you would just like general prayer or are not comfortable sharing your request, that is fine. If you like, the priest will anoint your forehead with oil, and the ministers will lay a hand on your head or shoulder as they pray for you. Music will continue quietly in the background during this time of corporate prayer.
2. Do I need to have a serious illness in order to receive prayer?
We invite anyone who desires prayer for healing to come to the service, whether you are dealing with a life-threatening illness or a less serious issue. We pray not only for healing of the body but also for healing of mind and spirit, so we also encourage you to come for healing of emotional or relational brokenness as well.
2. Can I come forward for prayer on behalf of someone else?
Yes, you can request prayer for a loved one who is need of healing and not present at the service.
3. Is my prayer request confidential?
Yes, your requests will be kept confidential.
4. Can I come even if I don’t want to receive healing prayer?
Receiving prayer from a prayer team is voluntary. You are welcome to come and simply sit during the prayer time, allowing God to minister to you through music and prayer.
5. Can I bring other people up with me to pray for me?
We encourage friends and family members to come forward and join in praying for your needs.
Hospital Admissions
Be sure and call the church!
The church needs to be contacted whenever you or a loved one is admitted to the hospital. Although the hospital admission clerks may ask specific questions about your religious preference, church, or if you would like to be visited, they will NOT notify St. George’s to let us know you are there. Governmental regulations (HIPPA) prohibit release of health information to third parties. Please call the church as soon as possible at 385-2150 and let us know which hospital you are in and the room number. If it’s an emergency or after hours, you can still call this number and speak with a live person who will contact the priest on duty.
Please call us! We care.
Prayer Lists
There are two different prayer lists at St. George’s: the Sunday Prayer List and the Weekday Chapel Prayer List. You may add names to one or both lists at any time. It’s easy!
How do I add someone to the pray list?
Submit a prayer request on the information form (located in the pews) and put it in the collection plate on Sunday. Or contact Lynn Ragland at 385-2150 x 247 or lynn.ragland@stgeorgesnashville.org. Indicate the list (or both) on which you would like the person’s name to appear. That’s all you need to do!
Those on the Sunday Prayer List are prayed for during the Prayers of the People and the names are printed in the Sunday bulletin so that the congregation may pray for them as well. Individuals on the Weekday Prayer List are prayed for at the 7:00am weekday Chapel services. Please be sure the person we are praying for knows that their name is included, especially for the Sunday list
Unless otherwise indicated, we will pray for each person four consecutive weeks. The person placing the name on the list is then contacted by the Church office to determine if the name should remain on the list another four weeks. Of course, a name may be removed at any time. Please let us know how the person is doing. We care and God is healing people in our midst.
One final note: letting the church office know about a hospitalization or illness does not mean automatic inclusion on either prayer list as often this information is confidential. Individuals are not placed on the public prayer lists without their permission.
Our Sunday prayer lists from the bulletin are posted online each week, along with the announcements. You can look for them on the home page.
