A Message from the Director

St. George’s enjoys a rich history dating back fifty years, when a small kindergarten was started in the church’s Sunday school rooms. While the school is steeped in tradition, we focus on implementing the Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

One of our most important goals is to develop a love for learning and curiosity, which encourages self-expression through language, music, art, and dramatic play. We strive to develop a well-rounded child who will be ready for the next stage of education.

We invite you to visit our school and share in the excitement at St. George’s Kindergarten.

Sincerely,
Zee Pendleton
Director

Mission Statement

St. George’s Kindergarten and Mother’s Day Out, an outreach of St. George’s Episcopal Church, is dedicated to providing a high quality education based on developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool aged children. The school is committed to partnering with families to foster a positive sense of self and a lifetime love of learning within a Christian environment.

Christian Education

Weekly chapel services for our four- and five- year-olds offer opportunities for Bible stories, prayers, hymns, and special recognition of Christian holidays. Children are recognized on their birthdays and we joyfully celebrate their special day.

Self Worth

St. George’s is noted for it’s warm, positive atmosphere. Our teachers are enthusiastic and encouraging as they interact with the children. Each child is valued as a unique individual. Self-expression and interpersonal relationships are fostered in this nurturing atmosphere. Children learn to make choices, manage time, follow directions, make friends, and benefit from all their daily experiences.

Daily Program

Free choice Activities: Children start their day with a variety of self-motivated activities. Activities might include: Blocks, dramatic play, writing centers, creative art, cooking, science exploration, manipulative areas with puzzles, games and multi- sensory activities. These enhance small motor development and reasoning skills.

Small group activities: The teacher has this time for group discussions and activities. Activities might include: puppets, stories, daily calendar, discussions on the area of study, language development, math and science discovery.

Outdoor play: The school has three playgrounds and a paved area for riding toys.

Music and Movement: The children flourish during this special time with Miss Jackie, our music teacher of fourteen years. Children build confidence and social skills while learning songs, finger plays, multi-cultural songs and dances.

Spanish: This enrichment program is offered one day a week to our older four and five-year-olds.

Computers: State of the art computers rotate on a weekly basis through our threes’, fours’ and fives’ classrooms.

Centers of Learning

Classrooms are organized in centers of interest so that children may enjoy a variety of experiences and to make choices. Children discover by using all of their senses: touching, seeing, hearing, tasting and smelling. They discuss, dramatize, recreate, organize and retell as they learn through play. Through listening to stories and sharing ideas, they develop a rich vocabulary and an opportunity for self-expression. Children also develop thinking and reasoning skills through the use of puzzles, calendar activities, creative art, hands-on math, science experiences, cooking projects, nature walks, and other opportunities for discovery.

Our resource room offers an extensive library of quality literature written for preschool-age children. The stories encompass a wide variety of selections including many children’s classics, stories from other cultures, as well as educational teacher reference books.

This information will be called in to the above named TV stations, and the business office will send an email. If St. George’s does not appear on these stations, that means we are open and beginning/ending as scheduled. You may also check our voice mail for updated changes and closings; it is your responsibility to check the TV station for the closings. If we do close early, we would like for you to pick up your child promptly. Check these TV websites for quick referral to our closings.

2009-2010 Annual Giving Campaign

St. George’s Kindergarten 2009-2010 Annual Giving Campaign

We are so excited about this year’s campaign. It is the result of current families, alumni, grandparents, and other relatives of current students and alumni who have requested opportunities to “give back” to a school that for many represents their first educational experience. If you have not received our Annual Giving letter and wish to donate, please let us know. We would especially like to thank those who have already sent in their gifts or their pledge cards.
